Garment Basics

Now that, hopefully, you have watched and practiced the techniques taught in the previous classes, you are ready to make garments.

We are calling it Garment Basics although we go into a lot of detail about sweater design and construction. We’ll take you through the process from design to finished garment focusing on three basic sweater pullover silhouettes. By watching this class, you will understand the process and be able to turn your own ideas into garments. Whether or not you have a linker, you will learn how to assemble a sweater in a variety of ways. Industry standard practices are used throughout.

Future classes will address raglans, v-necks, cardigans, plackets, pockets, yoke sweaters, cables and more.

What will you learn

Who this is for

This class is for students who have some experience with the main bed of the knitting machine. Knowledge of the ribber bed, short rows and shaping will be beneficial.

What do you get

  • 3 hours and 40 minutes of on-demand videos

  • Detailed written instructions and diagrams of the three garments demonstrated in class to follow along.

  • Exclusive access to our community forum to get questions answered by instructor.

What do you need

You will need at least a main bed. A ribber bed is beneficial, but garments can be made without a ribber.

Other tools used in the class: A calculator, pattern making paper, tape measure, sketch paper, a linker (again, not essential) a tapestry needle (bodkin), scissors
