Shaping and Transferring Stitches

This class will take you one step nearer to making a garment with confidence and finesse. Learn how to shape your fabric to create fully fashioned pieces. The concept and history of fashioning will be explored in detail and many ways to shape your pieces will be demonstrated, as well as tips to help you decide when (and when not) to use visible fashioning marks.

You will learn four ways to read (or write) machine knitting instructions.

Besides shaping, transferring stitches from one needle to another offers lots of potential to create more diverse and interesting fabrics, so we will address deflected stitches, dominant stitches and decorative decreases.

Additionally, we will introduce the garter bar. While not essential to performing all of the exercises, it can make some of the procedures much quicker once mastered.

As a preliminary to making garments, there are some tutorials on the math behind creating shapes like yokes and hat crowns.
